Basic Wound Care (Minor skin injuries)

A wound can be classified as simple as a cut or graze. As a first aider all minor skin injuries should be managed by the following:

  • Immediately after the injury, wash thoroughly with clean water and a mild soap, this will remove any debris or dirt in the wound.
  • Apple gentle pressure to stop any bleeding.
  • Cover the bandage with a low adherent dressing.
  • Ensure the area is cleaned daily and a new dressing applied.
