The Skeleton

The skeleton is a rigid framework of bone and cartilage. The skeleton, also known as the muscloskeletal system consists of the muscles, bones and any connective tissues such as ligaments and tendons.

It is designed for protection (of organs), posture and to provide movement. The average adult has 206 bones as well as a network of tendons, ligaments and cartilage, a child at birth has 270. The biggest bones in the body are the 2 femurs.
